The Validation of Formal & Non-Formal Learning
Validation of non-formal and informal learning is an opportunity launched from various European countries and actively promoted in European and international forums as a strategic element of innovation and optimization of learning systems for the enhancement of people and the development of employability.
In the CEDEFOP glossary, as well as in the recommendations relating to the EQF and ECVET, validation, or validation, of the learning outcomes means:
“The confirmation, by a competent organization, that the learning outcomes (knowledge, skills and/or competences) acquired by a person in a formal, non-formal or informal context have been learned based on pre-established criteria and comply to the requirements of a validation standard.“
Validation can be followed by certification or credit acceptance. About 10 years after the widespread debate and validation practices in Europe, there is a consolidation of training and technical and legal characteristics related to this device.
To clarify this consolidation of common points, in 2009, CEDEFOP published the European Guidelines for validating non-formal and informal learning.

The LutinX TRUST model
Verifiable Credentials allow you to validate information about people, organizations, and things. We will introduce Verifiable Credentials using an example where a student’s digital diploma is used to apply for a job.
Every verifiable credential is created by an issuer. An issuer is an organization or entity that asserts information about a subject to whom a credential is issued. In our example, the University is the issuer that issues a credential to the student, the subject.
Verifiable credentials, BBadges, contain attributes about the subjects to whom they are issued. The student’s field of study, year of graduation, and grade point average are examples of simple attributes that could be included. When a subject receives their verifiable credentials, they become the owner of the credential and store it in their BOOKLET, available to every student on their mobile phone.
When the student applies for a job, the employer requests access to view the student’s digital diploma. The employer is the verifier who will verify the information contained in the diploma before offering a job to the student. Verification is done through the public search engine Lutinx.com.
🚨 The global system in use today is based on a concept of “blind trust” towards “issuers who declare themselves as such. The system is critical. The more international the scope of use becomes.
🏁 In the LutinX world we have introduced EDVERSO International, a Swiss non-profit organization. EdVerso’s task is to verify who the organization is, and only after this verification is it granted access to the world of BBadges and the entire LutinX ecosystem.
At this point, the Training Organizations active on LutinX and Accredited in EdVerso will obtain the BLUE tick of verified user next to their name (company name). Anyone who wants to verify a digital Credential, a diploma, a certificate, a qualification or anything else, through the Student or Worker BBadge, will also be able to access all the public information of the Organization 🏆, promoting it and giving real value to the Certificate issued.
Verifiable credentials
LutinX’s trust model places the credential holder at the center of the identity ecosystem, giving individuals control over their data. By following W3C standards, LutinX also enables new capabilities.
The user locks the data and can present it to anyone, at any time, without informing or requesting permission from the issuer. This model is decentralized and offers much more autonomy and privacy to participants, while always guaranteeing the identity of the parties. This model supports people and organizations around the world.
W3C Open Standard
Verifiable Credentials are based on an open standard developed in the W3C known as Verifiable Credentials. A Verifiable Credential that is represented as a JSON Web Token (JWT) has an expected structure like the one on the black box.
This standard makes it easy for credentials to be “portable” across organizational boundaries. A credential issued by a university can be verified by any employer, bank, or any other organization that accepts the Verifiable Credential standard. Similarly, an employer can accept diplomas from any university that issues credentials according to the standard. The Verifiable Credential standard facilitates an open ecosystem of credentials that can be easily verified by any interested party.
